This is important for the student to understand the historical significance of their event. This is a new level of problems solving skills to most students in the competition. This conclusion must present how their topic affects individuals, communities, nations, and the world. The students gain much more then just academic skills. I had the privilege to watch the junior level performances. Overall, I was very impressed with the students that competed in the Idaho History day 2000. Performance based skills increase dramatically during the year. " The scope is large enough to allow a wide range of topics through out history. I truly believe that if teachers bring history alive for their students the enthusiasm will grow. Many of the competitions require that the students get hands on experience with history. This deeper look creates and environment for the students to apply critical thinking skills. They learn the material so well many of them become that part of history. Idaho History Day allows the students to bury themselves in history.
