Art Exhibition
The art gallery manager was surprised when he was asked to book the gallery for a solo exhibition by a twelfth grader, me. He wavered to give his assent as the gallery only exhibited established artists works. After a little persuasion he demanded to see my artwork - they were sketches and paintings. I already had a few works of mine, which I handed over to him. All of a sudden he was all excited, time and again praising the work. Next movement the dates and the rest were finalized. From then till the closing ceremony of my exhibition the events were all challenging exciting and above all mostly satisfying. It took me some time to realize that mounting and framing my paintings and booking an art gallery wasn't all that was to be done. There were a whole lot of things to be done behind the scenes. First thing was selecting about 50 works to be put up in the exhibition. After that came the brochu
Nearly 200 people came to the inauguration, which is a big number for an art exhibition. Even publicity was a part of this whole action. Last of all my friends and my younger brother helped me a great deal in setting up my paintings and sketches in the gallery. And I am glad to say that the way I put u the whole show and answered the queries gives me a great sense of achievement and satisfaction. My mother was of great help, being an artist herself. The event definitely was marred by some glitches and goof ups. On the spur of the movement it is difficult to think and reason out the correct answers. Advertising in the newspaper, putting up posters needed a lot of planning; a lot of experienced people helped me out with the tasks. I showed my work to two established artists, one being a famous playwright, making folk dramas and the other a renowned painter. This was the biggest challenge I had faced in the month prior to the exhibition and during the exhibition. The various questions about my work posed by many artists and other visitors took me by a surprise. I'm sure I would be better prepared for this 'question-answer' session in future. A guest list of around 350 people consisting mainly of artists was created. But the mistakes just clarified the doubts in my mind and it was a great learning process.
