Depression a universal concern

Depression has become a global concern as health practioners have received more and more complaints of this illness over the last ten years. According to the Author Lonnqvist "every year more than one million people commit suicide, accounting for 1 to 2 per cent of total global mortality. It is the fifth highest cause of years of life lost in the developed world". As a result suicide is becoming increasingly common. This has forced health practioniors and scientists all around the world to take the illness of depression more seriously. Thus, health practuioners, governments and scientists alike have been forced to spend more time and money researching the causes and the remedies to not only decrease the suicide rate but also to improve the quality of life for the people. Much work is yet to be completed and more case studies and scientific experimentation is to be done. However the finding to date are giving the professionals a better understanding of the nature of depression. Today I would like to discuss the causes of depression that the professionals have discovered in their ungoing process to combat this universal epidemic.· Much work has been undertaken to study possible relationships between occupation a


· Biologically, feelings function to orient an organism away from dangerous situations and towards positive situations. If anything it matures and becomes more demanding or dynamic. In beginning to undferstand depression we must look at the causes so that we can then begin to address them better. · People in professional and managerial occupations tend to have healthier scores on tests of depression than those working in occupations involving the operation of machines or transportation equipment. · The third is wealth and lifestyle· It is important to note that wealth and lifestyle are signifant to depression in that the amount of money we have determines our lifestyle and basic needs. Secondly we must look at our health and well-being. When we have a drink we quebch our thirst and we feel better or good. Thus, depression can be seen as an indication that a person is biologically unfit or unhealthy. This is an important part in the research of depression. From birth a basic human requirement is love. · Findings to date suggest that certain types of work are associated with different risks of becoming depressed. Finally love and the loss of love can create depression. This does factor in with material wealth, as mentioned earlier, but largely it is about personal choices and the freedom to express and act upon them. All theses things cost money and are expensive commodities. It is important to consider lost or abonded love when we look at love as a whole.
