            Throughout history, there has been many heroic acts. The heroic acts of the maiden in the book East of the Sun and West of the Moon is one of the most heroic acts that has ever taken place. The maiden took a voyage to find her prince across the treacherous mountains, across the Icy snowy plains, and across the dark creepy forest. The maidens actions during her travels demonstrates that she is a heroine.
             Thus, the maiden had to save her love from marrying the troll princess. So the maiden traveled far away to a gigantic salamander in a flaming cave. The maiden was fearful of the gigantic mystical being, but she gathered enough courage to ask where the troll kingdom was. The salamander had no answer but that she would not be welcome there. The salamander gave her a unicorn to ride to father forest who the salamander referred the maiden to ask him her question about the troll kingdom. The maiden over came her fear of the flaming cave with the salamander, which shows a value of a heroine.
             Then, the maiden traveled far to many mystical beings, such as father forest, the great fish, and the north wind. She asked all of these mystical beings if they would tell her where the troll kingdom was. None of these beings knew where the kingdom was except the north wind. So the north wind took the maiden to the troll kingdom knowing full well that this trip could very much kill him. The north wind never died, but the commitment and devotion of the maiden shows that she was willing to get there even if someone had to die.
             Finally, The maiden made it to the troll kingdom, but in order to get in she had to act like she was looking for work. The trolls bought the lie and hired the maiden to work. The maiden found her prince in a room but at the same time she ran into the troll princess. The maiden had gotten a bow and arrow from father forest and used it to kill the troll prince.
