Immigration

             The person I chose to interview was my father. His name is Douglas M. He is fifty years old. The interview took place at our home on Saturday September the 11th . I interviewed him at night after he came from work. There were many reasons to why I chose my father as the person I want to interview. First, I wanted to know how he as an immigrant who came to America in the seventies viewed the multi-culture that was in front of him. I wanted to know how he reacted to the change of going from a small town in the country of Yemen to coming to one of the biggest cities in the world, New York City.
             I interviewed my father in Arabic because his English is very poor. We discussed some things about his arrival to America, his views on certain things in America, and his reasons for coming to America.
             A.@ What is your name and what is your relationship to me?
             M.@ Ha, ha! My name is M.A. and the relationship between us is you're my oldest son.
             M.A.: I came in the early 70's, about 71, and I came to the most beautiful city in the world, New York City.
             A.A.: Alright pops, what was your first impression of a America?
             M.A.: Well, it was amazing. I imagined it to be a lot of things, good and bad, but imagining is one thing, to live it is another.
             A.A.: I don't understand what you mean, explain please?
             M.A.: O.K., the stories I used to hear about this country were many. Some people said the Americans are the rudest and most criminal people you'll ever meet. That turned out to be false. Some people used to say that as soon as you step out the airport, you start making money, not literally, but the opportunity to make money was everywhere and anywhere and to a certain extent, that is very true.
