Of Mice and Men

             Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck involve numerous of themes. Themes such as love, friendship, and loneliness were portray throughout the novel. These themes give a sense of realism to the reader and it describe the characters behavior, thoughts, and actions. Each character in the novel longs for someone that they can love and be able to express their thoughts to, but only George and Lennie experience that kind of bond. The characters not only portray these themes but they also lack it. Throughout all the characters in the novel only George experience all three themes. George experience love from Lennie, a friendship bond given by Lennie, and loneliness cause by Lennie. Not only does the themes of love, friendship, and loneliness connect with George and Lennie but they also connect with the other characters in the novel.
             Of Mice and Men deal with many type of loves. The love from a father to his son, the love of a man to his best friend, he love of a mother to her son, and the love of a man to animal, . George and Lennie shows the love from father to son and the love of a man to his best friend throughout the novel. George looks out for Lennie like a father looks out for his son and Lennie confides to George like a man confides to his best friend. Lennie is portray as a child like figure in the novel while George is portray as a father figure who looks out for Lennie. Like a father, George tell Lennie what to do and how to behave and like a child, Lennie listens and obey. While as a friend, George comforts Lennie and listens to him and in return Lennie confides in George and protects him. Not only is Lennie love by George but he is also love by his Aunt Carla. The love between Lennie and Aunt Carla is like the love between a mother and son. Aunt Carla shows her love towards Lennie by taking caring of him till her death.
