Immigration

            There is an estimated 8-15 million illegal immigrants in the US today. Every fourth foreign-born person living in America is illegal; if the actual number is close to 15 million - then every other foreign born child is illegal. At the current rate, our population will now double in the next 50 years if current immigration trends are not reversed
             In almost every debate about illegal immigration, Mexico is never held to account, despite its role in actually encouraging its citizens to cross into the United States. An unknown fact is that Mexico does this despite its potential to care for its citizens.
             One of the most common misconceptions is that Mexico is a poor nation. Mexico has a lot of poverty, yes, but it's not "poor." In terms of the potential to obliterate much of that poverty, Mexico has one of the greatest capacities in all of the Americas to do just that. It is rich in natural resources and, if it ever decides to tap those resources, could eradicate much of its own impoverishment.
             However, an investment of this magnitude would require money, And it's much easier for Mexico to freeload off of their willing wealthy neighbor. By doing so, Mexico actually reaps financial benefits. It knows that its children will be cared for and educated. It knows medical needs will be met, and it knows other basic services of life will be supplied. But, more importantly, it knows it won't have to pay for any of it.
             It is estimated that 150,000 new illegal Mexican immigrants arrive in the US every year. If this number is accurate, over 400 cross our boarders everyday. This is completely unacceptable. How can any conscious member of our society sleep at night knowing that in one day 400 unaccounted for and unchecked people cross the boarder into our home.
