Greed
"The greedy impale themselves on many heartaches"- the Apostle Paul. Greed is the excessive desire of acquiring or possessing, especially wishing to possess more than what one needs or deserves. It is not unusual for our society to want more than what is offered. But it has gotten to the point where greed is the most prominent motive fueling humanity. The short film, "Lunch," is a perfect portrayal of humanity today. In the film, the animated character, man, tries, with no avail, to get a candy bar, when he has a perfectly good sandwich at hand. What would possess him to even attempt to obtain this candy bar? The billboard is the obvious rationale. Billboards, magazines and television are all constant reminders of what we want, and can have, if the price is right. Television shows such as "Cribs" and "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" have made it so long because it gives us all hope of the American Dream. Sadly the American Dream has been greatly distorted, once representing a content and happy life, is now seen as the ability to obtain the most expensive homes, clothing and lifestyle. This distortion has come at a great cost, the dignity of mankind. Our modern way of life is such a contrast those of the past, especially p
The music in "Lunch" gives the film a comical tone. There are thousands of musicians, artists, and one hit wonders who's albums don't sell, not because the music industry looks down upon their work or didn't hand out contracts, but rather that the public wasn't interested. " The consequences in some cases, such as the Holocaust, were more than just oppressive, they were genocidal. With the Enlightenment, came organized marketing and modern capitalism. Confucius however would not condemn the blue man, because he recognizes that it is human nature, "Great as heaven and earth are, men still find something in them with which to be dissatisfied. Greed has not always been a driving force for mankind, and there are still some societies that exist using the most primitive ideals and focus only on basic needs for survival. " Confucianism isn't the only religion or belief system that denounces greed or any other selfish behaviors. But one may ask, "Doesn't wanting the best, or more expensive, in life for one's family reflect devotion of family?" ". During a confrontation between Gudrun and Brynhild, the truth came out about Gunnar and Sigurd's deceitful plan. Buddhism rejects desire of all kinds as harmful "It is not at all wrong for humans to use nature to make useful things, but we must not exploit nature unnecessarily. This is why he held such a strong emphasis on education.
