HUMAN RIGHTS

The idea of human rights has been on the minds of many great people for centuries. It was on the mind of King John and his subjects when he was forced to sign the Magna Carta. It was on the minds of our fore fathers when they conjured up our constitution in particular, the Bill of Rights. It is the reason behind the French Revolution and most other revolutions in history. Despite the fact that human rights have been in the histories of numerous countries, some have forgotten about them in these modern times. The modern Human Rights movement has been demanded that all governments around the world adhere to the basic human rights in their treatment of their citizens. A major example of abuse on Human Rights is the torturing of others because of religious views. Someone who exemplified standing up for this injustice is Bishop Wissa of Egy

Reading about Bishop Wissa made me wonder whether I really would have the courage to stand up for human rights and protest for them so much as to get arrested for it. People have the right to be happy, one of the most important rights in my opinion, and in order to be happy, they need to have free will. Hearing of people not being able to speak their mind on issues and being prosecuted for practicing the "wrong" religion really infuriates me. He said he had to stand up for this because protecting "his" people is part of his job. In my research to find the injustice I feel strongest for, I also read stories about other strong-willed souls who put their lives on the line for what they believed in. The bishop also supported two "witnesses" when they wants to come forth about not telling the truth. It is estimated that twelve hundred people had been imprisoned and tortured by beatings, electric shock to ears and genitals, and whippings. At times, I have gotten so fed up about the horrible things going on in the world that I start preaching and informing everyone around me about what is going on across the world. His trial is not over yet but it can result in death penalty or a lengthy sentence with hard labor. As I mentioned earlier, abuse on humans rights have been going on ever since governments were instituted. On August 15, 1998 two christians were murdered by five Muslims in the Coptic town of el-Kosheh. During the course of the investigation, the police would bring in 50-60 people a day to interrogate them. Every person in this world deserves such a thing.
