Global Warming
In the last century, the earth's surface temperature has increased 0.45-0.60 degreescelsius. Although some scientists believe global warming is not a problem, manyscientists believe that global warming is a serious problem, and can not be ignored. Global warming, as the term implies, is the increasing temperature of earth. Afactor that is believed to play a part in this is the greenhouse effect, which is theeffect in which greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide allow incoming solarradiation to enter into the earth's atmosphere, but prevent part of the infraredradiation from the earth's surface, and lower atmosphere from escaping into outerspace. The greenhouse effect, makes it possible to live on earth, as without it, life as weknow it would be impossible. The temperatures here on earth would be too low forsurvival. However, with the greenhouse effect, the earth's average temperature is60 degrees fahrenheit. However, the global warming problem lies in the greenhouseAs the amount of "greenhouse gasses" in the air increases, so will the power of thegreenhouse effect. The major greenhouse gasses are carbon dioxide, methane, andnitrous oxide. For instance, the concentrat
They believe it will not have a major effect in their lifetime, and itmost likely will not, as we will not be around another 100 years to see this. ion of carbon dixoide in the air since thebeginning of the industrial revolution have increased 30%, with nitrous oxideconcentrations increasing as much as 15% in some areas. The skeptics are alsoknowledged of the temperature fluctuating throughout time. The major industrialnations, using fossil fuels, do not want to cut down on the fossil fuels, for fear thatit will hurt their economy. Secondly it states the problem of humanity's use of fossil fuelscausing the warming. The skeptics of global warming believe that the ice caps andcoast-lines are by no means, in danger of melting away or disappearing. However, there are steps being taken. In my own research I have found that to the average citizen, global warmingmeans nothing. For instance, there are over 20,000 signatures on the Oregon Petition, which has been signed byearth scientists everywhere. Climate models of global warming arebelieved to be mis-represented by the skeptical point of view. They fear that the warming will eventually cause the ice caps to melt, with the sealevels rising. What can we do to stop this? For starts, the cause of global warming is thegreenhouse gasses in the air.
