The Lottery
"The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson was a very interesting and unexpected story that caused tremendous controversy when it was first published in the 1948 issue of the New Yorker. Jackson creates a drastic change of emotions in the tale. She lets the reader have strange thoughts about the story by using her writing techniques. Jackson also ends up dispersing knowledge to the reader about the human nature. After reviewing this story, I suggest that you should keep this narrative for further analysis."The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green," (83) is the opening statement of this narrative. The reader undergoes, effortlessly, under the scene of peace and tranquility when reading this initial sentence. This gives the reader a good impression and a "fictitious" happy ending for the story.
