My Hero

             The word successful can mean many different things to many different people. Some view successful if they have money, power or the latest technology. Others look at successful if they have a loving, caring family, an education or the fact that they are just truly happy with their life. Someone's view of successful can differ to the next. It is all in the eye of the beholder.
             My dad is successful. Simply stated. He grew up in the small town of Silver Springs NY (western New York). His father died suddenly when my dad was only sixteen and left behind another son and his wife. My dad and his brother moved in with their aunt who was in a school district that they wanted to attend. My dad did mediocre in academics and excelled in sports. He was a football standout, a wrestling star and a shot put and discus thrower. He went to sectionals in all three sports and deep down is proud of his sports history accomplishments, even though he doesn't really brag about any of them. After high school he attended Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T) where he left after three years because the college was filled with drugs and alcohol in which he was not raised around that and did not want to be associated with that.
             He got a job at a lumber company worked there until he went to work for the Village of Castile as the Superintendent of Public Works. He works hard and makes sure that everything he does is done properly. When people call him at home he is more than willing to go over there to make sure everything is ok. He is also very handy around the house. He can fix anything from a leaky water faucet to a broken step. He is willing to help anyone and give advice about anything. He often gives up his free weekend to help a family member or a friend fix something or build something.
