Feudalism

             Feudalism was the way of life for people. In the Middle Ages. Some
             people, like the royalty and nobles, supported and liked feudalism. Others, like
             serfs and slaves, did not enjoy feudalism. Everybody in society was involved with
             feudalism. Various parts of society were involved more than others.
             Feudalism emerged in western Europe in the ninth century. King
             Charlamagne was the first major supporter of this form of government.
             Feudalism is defined as a type of government in which political power was
             treated as a private possession and was divided among a large number of
             nobles. Feudalism was developed also tot decentralize the government. The
             people did not want to have one person control the entire country. Feudalism
             was also formed to be a way of protecting the people. The knights of the manor
             protected everyone that lived there. This was a easy way rather then forming one
             large army. Feudalism also made allies between manors. This allowed manors to

             level. They were the leaders who collected taxes from the workers. The second
             level of Feudalism was made up of lords and nobles. These people bought land
             to employ the serfs. They owned the whole manor, and collected taxes from the
             serfs to give to the royalty. The third level was made up of the knights. These
             knights pledged their lives to nobles to protect the manor. They would die
             protecting their noble's manor. The fourth and biggest level was made up of the
             serfs and slaves. This was the base of feudalism. These people did all the work.
