Homelessness

What if your landlord came to you today and told you, you no longer had a place to live or your mortgage payments were so far behind that your home was in jeopardy of being reposed, or maybe you are the victim of domestic violence and finally decided to get out, say your boss called you in and said he had to let you go - If you had no support system (friends, family, etc...) you could turn to WHAT WOULD YOU DO?More people than you may realize are faced with situations like the latter on a daily basis. Most of these individuals make up the homeless population. We are reminded that homelessness exists by the individuals that frequent corners with signs in hand displaying their homelessness and a desperate plea for assistance. For the most part, these desperate cries for help are legitimate. The homeless are individuals and families who have for whatever reason, lost their place of residency and often times have no support system (family or friends) to turn to for help. Battered women who live in poverty are often forced to choose between abusive relationships and homelessness. People who become homeless do not fit one general descrip

There are also individuals out there that are homeless by choice. The program would consist of a 24-hour help line for homeless individuals to call when they are in need of assistance; transportation services to transport potential clients to the facility for evaluation and possible acceptance into the program; temporary housing accommodations for individuals and families accepted into the program; qualified counselors and therapists to assist individuals and families deal with their unfortunate situations; qualified staff to assist individuals and families with securing affordable housing, employment or training to obtain employment and even assistance for those who wish to further their education; and support groups for the program participants who have successfully completed the program who have transitioned back into their normal living environments. Just think, if these programs were in place in your state, and your landlord came to you today and told you, you no longer had a place to live or your mortgage payments were so far behind that your home was in jeopardy of being reposed, or maybe you are the victim of domestic violence and finally decided to get out, say your boss called you in and said he had to let you go - If you had no support system (friends, family, etc. Whether it happened to you by no fault of your own, or you just made some bad choices in your life that ended you up in a situation like this, wouldn't it be nice to know that your state had in place programs that you could contact for assistance? You could salvage your pride in dignity if there were someone you could turn to for a helping hand - not a handout, just a helping hand. To address this issue, the program could be designed with strict guidelines and rules for the participants to follow; a timeline that the individual or family can remain in the program; random drug screens would be conducted on individuals entering the program on drug or alcohol basis; a contract would be signed prior to acceptance into the program stating that if the participant(s) do not comply with the rules and guidelines set forth by the program, that their contract will be revoked and all services would cease immediately as well as in the future. They just wander from place to place seeming seeking for a place to belong but never finding it. However, people experiencing homelessness do have certain shared basic needs, including affordable housing, adequate incomes, and health care. Some homeless people may need additional services such as mental health or drug treatment in order to remain securely housed. Being homeless can be a scary and a devastating experience. All of these needs must be met to prevent and end homelessness for those individuals sincere about bettering their situations. ) you could turn to WOULDN'T BE COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT YOU REALLY DO HAVE SOMEONE TO TURN TO FOR HELP. They are wanderers and have no desire to secure permanent residency. There would be people out there who would try to take advantage of the program.
