The great gatsby

In The Great Gatsby, many different emotions float about and then drift away. There is a mixture of negative (confusion, and suspicion) and positive (hopeful, and love struck) emotions. Throughout the novel, the narrator, Nick Carraway, makes judgments about many of the characters, some of them being Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby.Tom and Daisy were people who did not care about the consequences of their actions because they never had to deal with them. Other people always dealt with their consequences for them. They always had money to fall back on and it did not matter what they did. Their money would always free them from their predicaments. Daisy and Tom represented what happened to people who had too much and weren't accountable for anything. It was a fact that they had no conscience or moral responsibility. "I couldn't forgive him or like him, but I saw that what he had done was, to him, entirely justified. It was all very careless and confused. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made..." (Page 180)

Throughout life, an individual will learn that life circumstances will mold the person into the person that they are meant to be, not always bad, and not always good. " (Page 2) ""I've always been glad I said that. I saw that turbulent emotions possessed her, so I asked what I thought would be some sedative questions about her little girl. " (Page 144) Nick could not fully understand Gatsby because he didn't have to walk in his shoes every day. He didn't talk to the guests at his parties because they were merely just props. Some of his judgments were based on his opinion, but others were based on what was done. Nick was the person who came the closest to understanding Gatsby because he was a great listener. Gatsby did not realize that at one time Daisy did love Tom. Tom never liked Gatsby, and there were certain events that made Tom dislike Gatsby even more. This lie was covert for a long time. "Somehow, that seemed a despicable occupation. That was why she didn't like drinking. When Myrtle was killed, Tom automatically told Wilson that it was Gatsby who had done it.
