Has Modern Science Discredited the Biblical Theory of Divine Creation? Divine Creation is the understanding that the, "physical universe as a whole had a beginning a finite time ago as a result of an act of creation out of nothing by a single, conscious external cause or agent. And that external cause or creator is then claimed to be the personal God of the biblical theistic tradition" (Grunbaum). The essential power functioning in creation science is a supernatural being, "which is a polite term for magic." When natural forces are being monitored it becomes a science, and science does not try to justify phenomenal occurrence by means of supernatural forces (Zindler). Creationism attempts to preserve the book of Genesis, which details the sudden creation of all life forms on Earth a few thousand years ago. Genesis explains that all humans are created from one man, Adam and one woman, Eve. It also "claims that all but one boat-load of the living things on this planet perished in a world-wide flood in the year 2,348 B.C.E (Before the Common Era)." Creationist attack any theory or scientific evidence that exposes the mythological tendencies seen throughout Genesis (Zindler). The question I am faced with is, "Has modern sc
We are bombarded with the Big Bang Theory, the Gap Theory, Darwin's Theory of Evolution, and the list could go on and on. John Haught sides with Pollack in his effort to synchronize science and religion. Evolution is defined as, "the theory, now generally accepted, that all species of plants and animals developed from earlier forms by hereditary transmission of slight variations in successive generations" (Webster's Dictionary). And natural selection did not take place in a flood four-thousand odd years ago; it also took millions of years. Species of animals continue to evolve and those that cannot survive become extinct (Zindler). God allows us freedom in order to create splendor and variety. Observation two states that fossil remains found prove that living organisms from the past are much different than today's organisms. There are also Creationists that believe in evolution which was overseen by the Creator and they feel that Genesis is symbolic. He sees God as the great Creator who allows chaos and instability to take place in our lives. Yet with all the facts there are still those who refute the existence of evolution. They require the assurance received from knowing some divine being is looking over them and recognizes the truths behind all life. The Earth and all of its inhabitants are constantly changing.
