The Effective Way to Lose and Maintain Weight

In Canada, "33 percent of boys and 27 percent of girls are seriously overweight" (DeMont). Is this the future image of the average Canadian? The rapid increase of obesity in Canada has an obvious prevention. The best way to lose pounds and maintain an optimal weight is to exercise regularly, while eating everything in moderation. Exercise on a regular basis is an effective way to prevent weight gain and possibly lower ones cholesterol level. According to Health Canada, weight is easier to lose and maintain with a regular exercise program of one hour per day.(qtd. in DeMont). Finding an exercise program that one can stick with


Eating in moderation and variety is the key to losing and maintaining weight. The facts showed that Warner 2overweight people averaged half the steps of thinner people daily (qtd. In a recent study, Holly Wyatt counted the number of steps the average overweight person took compared to that of their thinner counterparts. Overindulgence causes food to be stored and turned into fat cells. The idea of weight loss to maintain a public image has been around for decades. If a routine can be found early, life long exercise programs are easier to keep, allowing for the best results in weight control. Although weight lifting creates muscle mass, which weighs more than fat, calories is easier to burn with a greater amount of muscle when paired with activity (DeMont). The idea behind moderate eating habits has been around for ages. Many experts "give the same advice: eat a variety of foods" (DeMont), eat smaller meals and choose healthy snacks every few hours (DeMont). In a study by Wyatt, it was shown that eighty percent of the participants in a weight-loss study ate breakfast on a regular basis. With obesity, Canadians may not be in as much trouble in the future as previously thought. Walking, riding a bike and lifting weight are also great forms of exercise (DeMont). Through trial, error, and logic, scientists believe that exercising and moderate eating habits are the most effective way to losing weight and keeping it off.
