I'd Rather Have Joy

             Happiness is like the moon, waxing and waning. Joy is like the sun, always shining even when night falls or clouds cover it. Happiness is defined as being evoked by feelings of well being, success, or good fortune. Happiness is an emotion we cling to but is fleeting at times. Why fleeting? It is fleeting because of the attempts to attain happiness by recreating the feelings of happiness. You may surprise yourself by wondering why a beautiful butterfly flitting from flower to flower can bring a smile to your face. You may be unable to conjure up the particular memory eliciting this emotional experience, if it is a memory or an experience at all. Happiness is subjective, because we are sometimes happy because the situation or event is in our favor; therefore, this feeling can be enhanced and applicable to everything that surrounds us. Happiness is usually dependent upon circumstances and if the circumstance changes to less favorable conditions, notice how quickly happiness dissipates and the impervious blanket of sadness penetrates you like morning fog, and see how quickly you begin to search once again for that ever elusive feeling of happiness.
             You may silently wonder is there anything better than happiness. The answer is a resounding yes-joy! Joy is a power that encompasses and transcends such trite emotions as happiness. Joy is defined as a state of well being and contentment. Joy is steadfast and deeply roots itself within all those who choose to embrace its precepts. Joy is found in the midst of turmoil and unrest; it serves as an anchor. Joy provides its recipient the will and desire to persevere and endure adversities. Joy is the substance of peace, allowing you to hear your inner voice and obey one's true nature, guiding and leading you down a path that gives you the strength to forgive, to love, and to share.
