The two books reveal personal problems and problems of American society in
American writers lessons: Nathaniel West "Miss Lonelyhearts" and Don DeLillo
The book "Miss Lonelyhearts" is about the newspaper reporter who writes the
agony column where he gives an advice for people who need it. At first it was a joke
but when Miss Lonelyhearts faces with real suffering of people he does not want to
continue. He does not know what to answer to the people. Miss Lonelyhearts thinks
about his life and his attitude toward people.

university. He has a wife Betty and four kids from previous marriages. This novel

I don't see a particular problem that Miss Lonelyhearts and Jack Gladney faced with
in the novels, except of their own personal feeling and their inner world. In Miss

why it was very hard for him to face with the suffering of others and especially to
share people's problems by giving them advices. The author did not give him a name
and that shows to me that he wasn't an individual.
Jack Gladney's problem is the fear of death. He wonders what death is like. He tries
to overcome his fear of death but thinks about it all the time and that only enlarges his
fear. He tries to understand death. He was wrong because to overcome the fear of
death one should not try to understand the death but to a
