Racism is a very serious problem not only in California, but across the world. They had demonstrations, boycotts, and even went on strike. They encountered a lot of resistance, yet they achieved what they were fighting for. The living conditions for these
migrant workers is a lot better than it used to be seventy years ago. One man named Cesar Chavez dedicated his whole life to making the lives of these people better. Some of today's present migrants also live in camps; however, their camps are much cleaner and less crowded than those of the 30's. For example, one
article reported:"60 Wal-Mart supermarkets in 21 US states were raided simultaneously by federal agents and 250 cleaners were detained on suspicion of being illegal immigrants. At first he only had three hundred members, but within a few years he had plenty of members. The
migrant workers of today have a great deal of support from their unions, the government, and
human rights advocates. This Union did many things to try and improve the lives of the migrants. It is outrageous that a large chain like Wal-Mart would do something like this. Nevertheless, not all of the
migrants live in these camps. Though they face some opposition by racists and are sometimes exploited by their employers, they have overcome many obstacles over the years and are now more successful than ever before. One
article reported on the attack of five Mexican
migrant workers.
