Dying to be thin

             Anywhere you go you are faced with the stereotypical "Barbie doll" or cover girl. Any and every product that is being sold and marketed is plastering its covers and labels with these "perfect women." It doesn't matter if it's a hair dryer, car advertisement, or a cough syrup, all labels have these beautiful women and men on them, and any labels you look at are exploiting the perfect image. I think that all though to blame advertising is very strong; I do think that it is very overwhelming to the consumer.
             In order to achieve success, competitors are aiming to produce and deliver goods and services that people want, value, and find attractive. The label is what might catch the eye and sell the product to a new or an existing customer, and that first impression right there is what the advertisers are after. These labels, these beautiful people on these labels, give the consumer a sense of hope, and at the same time might let them think for a second that this is what they should or will look like.
             People look at advertising to lead society in a direction, to start trends, to showcase what the fashion of tomorrow is. Advertisers have created this ideal person, this image that the majority of society can be portrayed as. Being portrayed is just it that blonde beauty on your hairspray bottle, the billboard advertising groceries, or the new car ad in reality is just a small percent of what the majority of consumers actually look like.
             When a company wants to begin the marketing process, or even further back, when they start to communicate about a product, someone doesn't just one day stand up and say something, and the next day they start the ball rolling. Companies go through an extensive process. They are creating the satisfaction for the consumers' wants and needs. They are packaging, branding, and labeling their products to satisfy consumers.
