Oedipus sends he trusty brother-in-law Creon to the Oracle at Delphi to find out what is causing this plauge upon Thebes. Etocles and Polyneices fought and killed each other. When Etocles's time is up he rufuses to abdicate the throne to Polyneices, Polyneices forms an army and attacks the seven gates of Thebes. When Creon hears this he goes to the cave to free Antigone. Etocles, being the oldest goes first. The brothers decide to take turns as king. All of a sudden a plauge strikes Thebes and Oedipus and the townspeople are baffled in regard to its cause. He is welcomed as a hero and is made king since the Theban king had died on his way to the Oracle at Delphi. When Oedipus finds his mother and wife dead by her own hand he takes off two of her gold brooches and gauges out his eyes.
