Admission Essay

College. The sometimes intimidating collection of dormitories, libraries, state-of-the-art chemistry labs, and amazingly plentiful amounts of social clubs is a place where optimistic hopefuls attempt to develop a love of learning. It's the place where America's future leaders develop a commitment to themselves and others by striving to become better people. Upon arriving on a college campus, one emerges from a cocoon of insularity into a world of appreciation our culture. In my opinion, every person with a desire for this growth of intellectual capital at one of America's fine colleges is entitle


What I do have, especially in recent years, is a devotion to the search of knowledge. Where does that leave the rest of us? What about those of us who only realized the value of edification halfway through their high school years? I do not have a 4. The years of education that await me are both a new beginning and a continuing adventure into the world of scholarship. But if motivation to do better, to become a truly educated individual is, then I am a college's dream applicant. My mind is open and eager because, as in the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes, "A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimension. Without this seeking of knowledge, my life is completely empty. 0 GPA, 1400 SAT score, honorary this, and distinguished that is the only way to obtain this cherished commodity. The quest to know the what, why, and how is the reason I continue to grow and mature. An understanding of the world is crucial if my life is not to become superficial. If achievement in earlier high school years is the only factor that determines whether I would be successful in college, then I would fail miserably. In all actuality, I feel I am ready to make my mark on the world. If an entire high school career's GPA or class rank is the only criterion for admission, then I do not deserve to be accepted. The search into the hearts and minds of others helps me to develop compassion, the concern that binds humanity.
