Before a car is manufactured for retail it is usually in the form of a concept car. A concept car is basically a prototype of the car later to be produced. Concept cars usually consist of features that will not be included in the manufactured car. Basically all automobile companies at one point or another produce a concept car. Another reason might be to test out a new modification to the automobile on the road. An automobile company that has quite a few concept cars is Volvo.
