The neighborhood of Harlem was the place to be in the 20's.
Much of the liturature of this time came out of the Harlem Renaissance.
In 1929 an average income for a family living in Harlem was $1,808 per year. This would become known as the "Harlem Renaissance" or "The New Negro Movement". The Harlem Renaissance changed all of this.

Much of the liturature of this time came out of the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance changed all of this. This was not only a time of literature, it was also a time of music, dance, composing and art. Before the 20's most white Americans carried the stereotype that African-Americans were incapable of culture. Most of these writers were recognized for their work and are still taught in schools today. This was a joyous time but it only lasted for a few years.
