"The Battle Of the Monarchs: Can Cathrine Really Be Worthy Of The Title Great?" Monarchy is rule by a king or queen. This one person can use it's overall power for good or evil. One very important monarch , probly the most powerful of all time, is Louis the XIV . Another very imporatnt monarch was Cathrine the great, who ruled during the mid-1700's. One could question if she was as succesful as , or even as known as louis the XIV. It is also a thought whether or not she is worthy enough to be compared to him. Both were very powerful , but who was the most powerful? Both Cathrine and Louis wanted to expand the borders of their countries and there reginof power. louis the XIV let a very unfair tax go about where the poor were taxed extremely and the rich and nobles were not counted for certainaments. He believed in a strong monarchy because he believed that there would be great disorder without it. As her rule moved along her treatment towards the peasents worsend She allowed the serfs to be treated poorly and have less rights. uis the XIV brought great Political and Cultural succes to their rule. Louis the XIV ruled for seventy-two years, which is the longest of that time. cathrine was also very influenced by western European thinkers and that people were born equal for some time. louis the XIV may have a had a longer rule and be more well known, Cathrine also made herself succesful. Thus , giving Cathrine the upper hand at the time. Cathrine the Great was one of the few few female monarchs. Neither monarch thought much of the poor. In th Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji of 1774 caused Russia to gain perminante access to the Black Sea. Cathrine seemed very good at keeping and gaining control of land. ed war on Russia , in hopes of gaining power, lost. Many of the peasants resendted that the nobles and wealthy were treated better.
