Television

             Neil Postman believes throughout his book that television causes many problems all over America. Television is viewed by most people as a means of entertainment, and can see no harm in it. Neil Postman can not disagree anymore with this statement. He makes strong arguments with different problems that Americans are faced with, but he feels totally strong in the fact that television hurts America.
             Neil Postman states "the medium is the metaphor," which has views reflecting this. The main point is that television is the medium and reflects on how we think and act on different matters. Television has influence on people's views and ideas. He feels that television is the metaphor towards people learning and understanding. What he means by this is that if there is something that is on TV that can influence you ideas it will. Television takes away from the thinking and understanding of ideas of ones own self. Also talking about what is on TV he feels that it can corrupt younger people. If there is something that is on television that is not appropriate which happens a lot it is easily accessible to younger people. Television not only has inappropriate shows on but has on religious beliefs which can alter your views. This causes problems because people feel that if their children are watching shows like this it will cause them to turn bad. He feels that if people are subject to be watching these problems that are on television that they will go out and actually perform the things they have watched. This is not the only way in which Postman feels that television causes hardships in America.
             On a different view of television Postman feels that with technology television has taken over the views and ideas of America.
