Raisin in the sun

             A countless amount of human beings throughout disparate time periods had dreams that they desired one day would come true. In the play, A Raisin in the Sun, written by Lorraine Hansberry, this scenerio was exceedingly apparent. An African American family also known as the Younger family, lived on the south side of Chicago in the 1950's residing in an African American neighborhood. The family struggled with numerous unfulfilled dreams that brought forth many complications as time went on. The Younger family obtained an insurance check for ten thousand dollars from the deceased Mr. Younger's life insurance policy. Each member of the household had a divergent plan as to what they would like to do with the large amount of money. As time goes on and irrefutable events happen, they slowly begin to put the family and the family's wishes before their own. The family soon forms their personal dreams along with the family's overarching dream.
             One of the main characters that had a dream that she hoped could be fulfilled in the future was the matriarch of the household, Mama. She was an older woman acknowledged by the name of Lena Younger. Religion was a necessity throughout her life along side her two children, Walter Lee and Beneatha. She relied on her morals to help her through her triumphs. Mama was a kind-hearted woman whom cherished her loved ones and would continually do anything to make sure that their hearts were filled with joy. She was the head of the Younger household and she challenged the family to respect themselves and take full pride in their personal dreams. She desires that her family enjoy life to the fullest. Mama's only dream that she wished was to own her own home with a garden of her own. She hoped the new home would shape her family back to the ordinary.
