The Curse of the Boston Redsox

The Boston Redsox, a major league baseball team, have not won a World Series title in 52 years. The cause of this long drought of losing seasons is debatable according to fans and sportswriters. The 2003 major league baseball season was the last attempt by the team to make it to the big game. The Boston Redsox would have to defeat their arch nemesis, the New York Yankees. Boston failed to defeat the Yankees in seven games in the American League championship series in 2003. Two years before that, the Boston Redsox were knocked out of the playoffs by the New York Yankees in five games. Can you see the pattern here? Why do the Redsox never win? Well, there is the curse that began fifty years ago with trading Babe Ruth off to the Yankees, Grady Little making poor coaching decisions, and the superior performance of the New York Yankees.

With the Redsox ahead of the Yankees 5-2 in the eighth inning, Pedro Martinez allowed a single and a double with only one out. Many people could argue that move was the cause of the Redsox drought of destruction. If the Boston Redsox plan to win any championships, they need to discover the strategy to beat the New York Yankees; without that, the Yankees will continue to shine and the Redsox will just find more excuses to rely on.

Whenever the Redsox and Yankees play during the season everyone knows that it’s going to be an interesting game to watch. Grady Little, knowing that Pedro wears down after a 100 pitches or left the pitcher in to face another Yankee hitter.
