I read the book "A World Destroyed: Hiroshima and the Origins of the Arms Race" written by Martin J. Sherwin. I thoroughly enjoyed reading on Hiroshima. Throughout many history classes at different schools I have learned a great deal on Hiroshima, but have found many things in this book that have struck my attention. I really overly enjoyed reading this book, I have learned many new things. I learned many things in this book that I will explain. On the morning of August 6, 1945, a B-29 bomber named the Enola Gay flew over the industrial city of Hiroshima, Japan and dropped the first atomic bomb ever. The city went up in flames caused by the immense power equal to about 20,000 tons of TNT. This obviously was a huge success, this scary project. I learned that this project was made by unpredictable assemblage of civilian people, and military scientific brain power-brilliant, intense, and young people. The isolated mountain setting, known as Los Alamos, New Mexico, was the sight to design and build the bomb that would end World War II, but begin serious controversies concerning its sheer power and destruction. I became interested in this topic because of my interest in science and history. It seemed an app
With statistics like these, I see that Pope John Paul II was right when he said, "Any nuclear war would inevitably cause death, disease, and suffering of pandemic proportions and without the possibility of effective medical intervention. That never really ended up happening though, to this day the presidents wished that they would have had appointed someone else as leader of the Atomic bomb. Some interesting facts about the statistics of Hiroshima I found throughout the book. I feel that the atomic bomb should have never been dropped, it was not necessary. Unless they worked at the lab themselves, wives knew nothing of their husband's research. This static overpressure has the power to crush buildings. I also learned that General Groves initial task had been to select a scientific director of the bomb project. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings were always taught to me with some opinion and I always wanted to know the bomb itself and the unbiased effects that it had. It was a scary and sad thing that happened and so these examples that I have found in the book about Hiroshima will hopefully be the first and the last time that the power of the atomic bomb will ever be used. Sparked by the refugee physicists in the US the program was slowly organized after Nuclear fission was expressed the fear that Hitler would attempt to build a fission bomb. I found in the book that there are several types of atomic bomb uses. I found out some interesting facts from the book about the Atomic Bomb. " (A World Destroyed) I feel that this book was one of the best in explaining the hardships and the experiences of Hiroshima. The blast from an atomic bombs explosion will last for only one-half to one second, but in this amount of time a great deal of damage is done. A competent and hardworking scientist himself, Fuchs enabled the Soviet Union to create his or her own atomic bomb.
