Driving an automobile is a risky and dangerous activity. Every day, tragicaccidents make the headlines in newspapers and on the evening TV news. Driving is anessential part of day-to-day living for most people, and yet this ordinary means of gettingfrom one place to another can be deadly. With so many people of all ages on the road,practicing traffic safety is a must. Each year thousands ofdrivers and passengers die in the few minutes just after auto collisions. Keeping a child occupied will make everyone's experience morepleasant and fun. Anotherimportant precaution is realizing the importance of reacting to a life-threatening situation,such as gaining control of a blowout or skid, handling failed brakes or a sticky accelerator,or driving into water. A child must be in an approvedsafety seat, of the correct size for its age and weight, and facing the right direction. The first few minutes after an accident are vital, andresponding correctly could save lives. Road rage has become another serious road hazard, and combining anger anddriving is a big and dangerous mistake. Although knowing first-aid is not required for a driver's license, taking afirst-aid class is a smart idea. It alsoemphasizes the importance of having a good first-aid kit handy. A first-aid course teaches techniques to assist breathing,stop bleeding and be as useful as possible until professional help arrives. Having a cellular phone for emergencies is a smart idea. Other accessories forwarding off crime include a flashlight, pepper spray, and key chains that separate. Driving has become so common that most people simply take it for granted andforget the many types of risks involved in moving a 1 ton machine at 65 miles per hour inall sorts of conditions.
