Beauty has always been part of our lives, and it influences a part of love. It’s everywhere. But can it be the foundation to love? To many people love is “the greatest” thing earth has to offer, but is it really love when sometimes all we focus on is the way our “special someone” looks? Sometimes we find ourselves focusing more on the appearance of a person rather than what’s on the inside. Phrases like “God, today is his off day,” “Man he is hot,” or even “He’s so hot I can’t breathe,” just give away the fact that some people love looks more than they love personality. But then in other cases, phrases like “His personality makes him cute,” or “If he was a jerk he would be ugly” contradict that fact. Now the question is which is the foundation to a stable relationship: physical beauty, or internal beauty? In movies like Shrek, and Shallow Hal, internal beauty is the most important aspect to love and relationships. In these movies appearance does not conquer personality. For example, in Shrek appearance did not matter because Shrek, the main character has already fallen madly in love with the Princesses’ personality. In the ending their relationship ended in marriage. In other movies like The Sweetest Thing, and How to Lose a Gu . . .
It’s hard to say because it’s really based on the person falling in love. Her roommate searches only for looks. “Love is in the eyes of the Beholder. What some people don’t realize is that when a person says someone is beautiful, they may say it because that someone is beautiful within, and that other person only thinks differently because they don’t see the inner beauty; they see the physical appearance. Like Tony Robbins says in Shallow Hal “Love is in the eyes of the beholder. He accepted the beauty within over the physical beauty. Because of movies like Shrek and How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, it is extremely hard to tell which part of beauty is more important to a relationship. She doesn’t realize that because of his appearance she is falling in love. We also saw love work based only on appearance as in The Sweetest Thing, and How to Lose a Guy in Ten days. For others personality is the foundation. Yes, it’s true some people do look for both. For me it works both ways, as in the movie The Sweetest Thing. Would you want to go on for the rest of your life dating someone, who does not look good? I don’t think so.
