MEDIA AND POLITICS

'Good new is boring'. This one statement represents the views of most media companies concerning elections. There fore most voters rely on the media to tell them facts on the candidates. Media primarily controls the opinions of most voters. The media's job is to inform, however during election time the media is used as a medium for lies and slander. This is evident in the Fahrenheit 9/11 movie and reports on President Bush's National Guard duty versus John Kerry's swift boat scandal. When the scandal and gossip starts to overshadow the facts then the media needs to be censored. Often newspapers and television station's feelings are expressed in the articles or the broadcast. Unfortunately the most common feeling about the government has been negative. The media decides what they think is important to the public and there for can shape views. Given the fact that time is money, political strategy, scandal, fighting, and the private lives of the politicians are in the headlines and feature stories. The issues are not a factor anymore it what the Bush or Kerry had last night for dinner. In the Fahrenheit 9/11 movie it showed the all the reasons that the director Michael Moore thought bush should not be reelected. Because the mo

There should be some kind of restriction that limits what they can print as far as candidates and elections go. That takes too much time, all the stations and newspapers should give the facts cut and dry. I can't tell you what issues they stand for but I can tell you all about the gossip and that shouldn't be the case. The main focus of the movie was the fact that President Bush didn't react as fast as he should have or people perceived that he should have. This would allow the people that don't follow the elections and debates as closely to still have a good idea of what is going on. The media should not be allowed to go out and fish for stories about the candidates. If this was to happen I personally would have a better grasp of the elections and the issues. There was the swift boat scandal and the book by John O'Neill; Unfit for Command: Swift boat veterans speak out against Kerry. No one could possibly know how to react to someone telling them that something flew into the twin towers. Is there some kind of prerequisite that states you have to have to war or be a veteran in order to be a good person or better yet to be President? On the Kerry side of things there was major setback to his campaign. Personally I don't have enough time to go out and do in-depth research on each candidate so I rely on the media, however I would like to get the facts not what they feel is important. in one claim in particular they claimed they saw Kerry killing a baby, but then in the same breath the say they he stopped the massacre of a Vietnamese family. The book accused John Kerry of numerous crimes including, murder, fraud, lying to the senate, dereliction of duty, etc. After watching this movie my first reaction was a very negative one, the exact reaction that Michael Moore was looking for and got from many people other than me.
