History and Cultural Analysis on the NBA

             When most people think about the NBA in today's society, they think, who cares, and it's just another game between insanely overpaid athletes. In a sense, they are right, athletes are overpaid. However, what people do not realize is the rich history behind the NBA and how the players have impacted not only American culture, but people all around the world. People don't realize how the players in the NBA affect black youth growing up, or how their actions affect those who look up to them. NBA players are idolized my millions of children in the world, and they don't realize that their actions, both good and bad, are repeated by the people that look up to them. Nor do people realize all of the history behind the NBA, how it was created, all of the records, the great games, and the thousands of amazing memories that have been forgotten in this day in age. The NBA is not just basketball, it greatly affects our culture, our society, and certainly it affects the lives of millions of people.
             No one ever could have imagined that in December of 1891 that James Naismith's experimental game of basketball would turn into the multi-billion dollar
             industry that it is today (Naismith 42). When Naismith first created basketball, it was not played on the court like it is today, and there were many different and fewer rules to be followed. Naismith created the game of basketball because his boss told him to invent a new game (Naismith 60). Basketball was first played for fun; it was just a game, however, ever since the creation of the NBA and NCAA basketball, the game, and the world surrounding basketball has completely changed.
