American Beauty
Sam Mendes directs American Beauty, film, which was released in 1999. Alan Ball writes the film. The film is about a man, Lester Burnham, who changes his lifestyle in middle of his death from old fashioned to rejuvenated young man. Lester Burnham is a middle aged magazine writer on the verge of losing his job. He lives in an immaculate suburb with his real estate agent wife Carolyn, who considers her husband a failure and won't allow him to touch her, and his teenage daughter Jane, who has little use for Lester either. Angela Hayes, friend to both Jane and Lester, plays the great part in recourse of Lester lifestyle. Their new neighbors are a marine colonel Frank Fitts, his unhappy wife and their strange son, Ricky, who goes about recording everything in his life on videotape. Lester meets a teenage friend of his daughter that ignites a passion in him that he thought has long since been dead. Why is everything blamed on poor Carolyn? Most absurd, Lester's dramatic change of attitude and lifestyle doesn't produce the slightest change in the family's living arrangements or the circumstances of its daily activity. He starts working out at the suggestion of his love object, Angela. Ricky spies under the cover of darkness and filming her with a hand-held camcorder. Lester, through the crush of a "girl less than half his age", manages to find new ways to redeem himself: he smokes marijuana and starts working out to lose those pounds to "impress" Angela (Zelevinsky). Lester takes job at the fast food place after quitting his so called "real" job, is not really going through an internal change, he is merely escaping from life by going through a "temporary childhood" fantasy (Schwartz par.
