American Beauty

             Sam Mendes directs American Beauty, film, which was released in 1999. Alan Ball writes the film. The film is about a man, Lester Burnham, who changes his lifestyle in middle of his death from old fashioned to rejuvenated young man. Lester Burnham is a middle aged magazine writer on the verge of losing his job. He lives in an immaculate suburb with his real estate agent wife Carolyn, who considers her husband a failure and won't allow him to touch her, and his teenage daughter Jane, who has little use for Lester either. Angela Hayes, friend to both Jane and Lester, plays the great part in recourse of Lester lifestyle. Their new neighbors are a marine colonel Frank Fitts, his unhappy wife and their strange son, Ricky, who goes about recording everything in his life on videotape.
             American Beauty is an emotionally charged masterpiece, which moves people to tears. The film reveals more about the perfect American family living in every perfect home. The central theme seems to be that, for all the ridiculous posturing, ugly hatreds, long-held prejudices and daily struggles in American life, the most amazing emotional moments can be gleaned from the least likely sources. However, behind the every perfect family, there lies the truth. This truth is a paradox, a conflict between right and wrong, cruelty and tenderness, hatred and love. This film is an exploration into the conflicts one has with oneself, as well as the conflict of life and death.
             Lester Burnham is a "gigantic loser... sleepwalking through life," through his mind-numbing job as a magazine writer, through his distant relationships with his materialistic wife
