The Power of Love in
In the story, "A Worn Path," Eudora Wetly tell of an old woman living in a time when racial prejudice is a common and serious issue. Phoenix Jackson is a grandmother who cares for her grandson so much that she risks her own life frequently. The strength of love makes people do or say unusual and amazing things. The central idea of the story is that love can motivate someone to overcome many life-threatening obstacles that would usually be impossible. This idea is shown in the story by and old woman conquering all odds to help her grandson in any way she can. Throughout the story Phoenix Jackson has to overcome many types of obstacles that hinder her in her travel to get medicine for her grandson. One of the main obstacles that stands in her way is her physical capability. Phoenix Jackson is very weak and feeble because of her old age; that makes her long journey very dangerous to begin with. The journey itself is not easy in any way, either. She crosses many obstacles that go as far as to maker her weave and duck under a barbed wire fence. The title of the story has a direct meaning to the life of Phoenix Jackson because it tells about the hardships she went through in her life. One of these obstacles is that Phoenix Jackson lives a life of extreme poverty. This story makes the reader believe that no matter what happens, Phoenix will complete her journey of love. Another social obstacle is that she is illiterate. She knows that she must complete her mission. Also, the nurse's attendant scorns at her because she does not feel comfortable talking in the office. The title and the name of the character in the story have a lot of significance. Some of these social obstacles are as a result of her race. He laughs at he stubbornness to complete her journey. She has to go through discrimination and humiliation throughout her journey. Love is the strongest force in the world.
