             Define the character of Claudio as it changes and develops throughout "much ado about nothing".
             "Much ado about nothing" is a typical romantic play with rich wealthy people, weddings and happiness. The play begins in love, goes through trouble but ends in joy. There are two couples to the play young Hero and the "noble Claudio". Hero is the daughter of the governor of messina (Leonato), and Claudio's the count of Florence. Then there's the older couple Beatrice and Benadick. Beatrice is the niece of Leonato, Hero's cousin, and Benedick is the gentleman of Padua. Hero and Claudio are more inexperienced at relationships, as there love for one another is first based on looks. Claudio asks "didst thou note the daughter of signor Leonato," this automatically gives us the impression that he doesn't know much about Hero nevertheless he still wants to marry her because of her appearance. Claudio shows that he can be somewhat callable sometimes because he is judging "a book by its cover". Benedick and Beatrice on the other hand seem to have more of a reason to get married because their love is based on personalities more than on looks. Benedick and Beatrice are more mature and careful towards things, this is shown because the other couple Hero and Claudio didn't have much of a history of friendship before getting married.
             In act 1 scene 1 even before Claudio enters on stage we are already hearing good things about him. The messenger reports that Claudio's achievements in the recent battle were amazing for someone his age, "doing in the figure of a lamb the feats of a lion. He hath indeed better bettered expectation than you must expect of me to tell you how." The messenger later describes Claudio as being noble, "the right noble Claudio".
