Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution occurred from the early 1700's to theearly 1800's. The Industrial Revolution refers to the changes thatoccurred during the 1700's and 1800's and the time period. TheIndustrial Revolution was a period of drastic change from handmade items to machine manufactured goods. I believe theIndustrial Revolution was a revolution in the "true" sense of the word. According to Webster's Dictionary (1984), a revolutionis: "a sudden, radical, or complete change." I think the 1700's andearly 1800's was a period of great change. in this period, therewere many inventions that impacted people such as the spinningjenny and water powered frame, and steam engine. but somehistorians would disagree with me. They think the IndustrialRevolution can be traced back to developments in Europe hundreds The Industrial Revolution began in England. Advancesin technology came to this revolution. The Revolution began inEngland because England had large supplies of coal and iron.
Besides all these inventions that people weremaking that tripled productivity, there were many problems causedby the Industrial Revolution. Michael Faraday, some Britishscientist, showed how an electric current could be made. In the1700's, England was the world's leading colonial power. in 1833an act was passed limiting thenumber of hours women and children could work in the textilemills. With the progress in technology, radio waves werediscovered. Marie Curiediscovered radioactivity which could be used as a power source, which led to the discovery of the atomic bomb. The markets helped stimulate the textile and ironindustries in England. Cities were able to expand in sizebecause people could go farther in less time due to the steamengine. Now, there was anew problem as there was an insufficient supply of yarn. kids and woman workedunder harsh conditions; they worked long hours and wereunderpaid. With a typewriter, if a person made atypographical mistake, he had to start the page over again. There were also developments made in science. Withthe computer, you can delete the mistake by the touch of a button. The telephoneand telegraph were the first devices that enabled the public tocommunicate.
