Hampton at a Glance
As I walk about the campus each day and observe the different sites and interactions of the people, it amazes me how we are so different, but yet many of us are the same. I watch as we transfer from class to class, the scenery at the cafe on the inside as well as outside, the student grill, and the Chapel on Sunday. These are very interesting places to observe because you have so many different personalities and ideas uniting as one. And all of this takes place on the campus of Hampton University. Each day, many of us scramble from class to class looking like little ants running about lost. Then there is time spent front the Science and Technology building and the lobby of MLK and Buckman in between classes. In front of the Science & Technology is majority upperclassmen having their bonding time since many of them do not live on campus anyway. They all post up on the walls whether it is cold or hot and just chill and talk. Some play around hitting and chasing each other; while others show each other love by hugging one another and expressing themselves. Then you have the lobby of MLK and Buckman where everyone chills in between classes. This is the one of the mai
Also, as you walk inside you hear all of the voices speaking at once again all trying to be heard as in the MLK lobby. So you have to be ready when it is coming your way. As you are walking towards the cafeteria you see quite a few people chilling on the outside, standing in street, and sitting on the rails and the walls. Then, once class ends the cycle begins again. At the front the little ladies check your ID and then you move on. Another observation is the few white faces on campus and those of other nationalities. Also, here you don't have a crowd of people like at the cafeteria and you have a big screen television to watch inside. They know black people like rhyt!hm and something they can move to and get the spirit. Across from the hot line you have the fast food line where they serve the same old french fries, pizza, and nasty hamburgers everyday (it's very seldom that I step foot in that line). During our meal we begin conversations and we all talk about how disgusting the food is. Also, what tops the rain off are the strong winds called "THE HAWK". The Delta's on the other hand do not have a particular spot if I'm correct, but you still know when they are around because you see them make their little triangular hand gesture and their call which is "oooh-ooop" !and you know their on the scene. The scenery is much more layed back and you can chill. After placing my tray down, I get go to the salad bar section to pick up me some vegetables. You have then northern accents, then the southern ones, the west coast accents, and the Midwest accents.
