DDAY
D-Day was the most important battle of World War 2. There were many aspects of D-Day that lead to the allies' victory over Germany. D-day was the turning point of the war and most say that it ended the war. So many things had to go right all at the same time, which made D-day so hard to plan and do. "On June 6 1944 the biggest land invasion in history took place" (blivens 92). Allied troops landed on Omaha, Utah, Juno, and Gold beach. Although Omaha beach suffered the most loss of life ranging from 120,000-125,000 American British and Canadian troops all beaches suffered more then expected. D-day was not originally called D-day it was called "Operation Overlord" (blivens 45). Operation Overlord was originally scheduled for June 5 1944 but was canceled due to weather. Many different branches of the military where involved, not just the Army or the Marines but even the "Cost guard was involved" (blivens 84). The Cost Guards job was to fish out any survivors from sunken lan
I would have to agree that D-day would end the World War 2 cause all that the allied side would have to do is liberate France and that would have opened the door to Berlin. Most important would be Adolf Hitler. Many important people had participated in the invasion. Soon after the war David was "elected President of the United States in 1953" (Normandy 1944 44). When you lose you son to war it has to be a traumatic incident causing break ups of families and even suicide. The B-17 would drop "266,227 tons of bombs" (g&d 216). There were lots of other factors that contributed to the success of operation overlord. Dwight David Eisenhower was the commanding general in World War 2. These would only be a hand full of the important people in the invasion of Normandy. It took their tolls in family life also. He was the commander of the Afrika Korps. Suppressing your emotions for so long they just build up inside of you caused it. The airforce consisted from everything to the P-51 mustang to the B-17 flying fortress. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**.
