Blaise Pascal argues that there is a mathematical possibility that God exists. His argument is know as Pascal's Wager, and he states that believing in God is sensible and rational even though there is no evidence or objective certainty to believe it. Simply put, he argues that you have more to gain from believing in God than you have to lose. According to Pascal there are essential benefits in believing in his existence. Yet the existence of God has been a question of controversy ever since people developed the capability of thought. Elliott Sober gives rise to several strong objections against Pascal's argument, which should also be taken into consideration when regarding an argument for the existence of a God. First Sober brings forth the decision theory and states that belief is not an action you can choose and perform, at your will. Pascal being aware that belief does not come as a random action suggested that some people should spend time amongst theist or find themselves an environment where belief is practiced. In both cases there is a probability that God exists. The second and even stronger objection to Pascal's Wager made by Sober is that Pascal makes a quick assumption of how God would be like if he existed. Another reply Pascal could make is that we as being very limited to the reasoning based on observations of familiar things cou!ld not possibly hope to understand an all-knowing and powerful God by rational inquiry. If you do not believe in God, you may not have to go to c!hurch but you will not get to enjoy the priceless and infinite rewards that God offers. You should believe in God because the proposition that God (even though there might only be really slight chance) exist can be true. The setting and the right habits is what can make a person a true and sincere believer. You can think of it along these lines. How could a person know if these assumptions are true? Sober sees no reason why any of the payoffs that Pascal depicts are true. You cannot choose to belief in God because you are given a prudential reason. People have to essential make a gamble when it comes to the belief in God. Pascal shows you this by partly using objective facts based on mathematics that plea with his outcomes. The second objection made by Sober referring to the assumptions of Gods nature, Pascal could reply as follows. there is no evidence to support that there is a God, because of the bad things that can happen to you if you do not believe.
