2017 wordsIn an ever-changing world such as America, it is hard to trace the roots of a nation so grand without getting lost in the everyday confusion of technological advancements.Still, much of what America is today is owed largely to such cultures as the Greeks,who have given this nation the building blocks to be a world power merging into thenew millennium. In fact, no other civilization that has come before can claim greater influence on America than that of the Greek civilization. Influences of the Greek world spill over into today's America in famous paintingsas the Judgement of Paris; literary masterpieces as the Iliad, the Odyssey, andthe New Testament (Septuagint); sporting favorites like the Olympics, which come every four years; and other contributions, such as cathedrals, the catheter, the sciences and math, and philosophy. Indeed, the entire scope of American culture dips into some Four key areas of America today that have filtered great contributions from the ancient Greeks are the arts (which include literature, architecture, and art work), family values (which focus on hierarchy, roles of family
Historians learn a little about the culture, the type of clothing worn, what classes of people did what, and so on. The arrangement of the marriages were often for political reasons or to show one's alliance to another. Festivals preceded these social events, in which sacrifices were made tothe particular god or goddess. Until recently, within these past several decades, women have been considered inferiorto men. Not much is said of the education of the daughters, whichwould have been derived from the example of their mother. A major event in world history that warrants its birth to the Greek civilization isthe Olympics, which occur every four years. It is with great thanks togreat thinkers and scholars as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle that America has such a richlove and appreciation for philosophy and reasoning into all that exists, for these are theelements that led them to form scientific data and philosophical intrigues into life, purpose, and cause and effect.
