             Have you seen what is on television? Do you care about your kids? In one hour of television your child could be exposed to graphic sex or violent killings. Children are very impressionable, especially at a young age, and watching television can have a negative impact on them. Many children believe that what they watch on television is real. There are many reasons why certain programs on television can have a bad influence on children. The three main reasons are the abundance of violence, sex, and lack of morals throughout television programs.
             Violence is abundant in television programs. Many viewers, especially children, like the fast action and use of weaponry common in many violent scenes. Often violence is what makes the hero of the story the hero. Children admire the hero and often want to be just like the hero. If the hero of the story uses violence to gain victory, which they often do, then children will learn that violence is needed to overcome the enemy or to be victorious. By allowing children to view violence on television we are impressing in their minds that violence is a normal acceptable behavior.
             In addition, sexual situations are also common on many television shows. Anything sexual related is an adult behavior and should not be viewed by young children. By watching sexual situations on television children are taught about sex at too young of an age. For example, the popular show "Melrose Place" often shows racy sexual scenes that include some nudity. The sexual scenes children witness on television can trigger the imagination and curiosity. Which can eventually lead to teen pregnancy or rape. Allowing children to view adult content is allowing them to learn about sex through television instead of through their parents.
