The youth of this generation are faced with many externalities

The youth of this generation are faced with many negative externalities. Drugs, sex, and violence are all factors that urban areas deal with day to day. Music has become an infamous influence on our youth. From just the repetition of lyrics said to the portrayal of artists has put an image to be recognized as dangerous to our younger generation. This generation looks up to these artists that come from the same neighborhoods that these children and teens live in, with that in mind, these artists live lives that resemble some of the negativity found on the streets. Music artists today have lost sight of making quality informational messages, to produce lyrics that sell a disapproving image; in which the music industry benefits from the most. Most artists in the industry today, usually come from urban areas in the country. Their lives have been surrounded by violence, sex, and drugs, and in the lyrics that is all that is revealed to the fans. These artists come into the industry with distorted views already, since dealing with it all their life, they're closed minded about the rest of the world. They haven't been exposed to the positive side of life and what it has to offer. Since, dealing with adversi

Career development is crucial for solo artists, "this category is designed to support projects which directly benefit American solo artists in music" ( Music 11). Our youth absorbs everything they hear and take it to heart. These young artists don't have that background to be interested in negotiations of contracts, coming from urban neighborhoods, they're ideals are based upon "hustling. Instead of saving or investing their income, they carelessly spend it on materialistic items to show off how much they're worth. Just last year, No Limit Records hosted a seminar in Chicago on how to start a record label, how to manage recording artists, and how to receive grants and funds for the individual's business. Using a gun doesn't make you a man or woman, it just puts you in a lot of trouble and headache. They have been proven to be helpful to a lot of new recording artists. Washington / Page 2It's something that occurs so often that most artists don't plan for the future, they only think of the present. The first thing that most artists do is purchase fancy cars, luxury mansions, and nice jewelry. These talented artists aren't being taken cared of, for instance, The Artist formerly known as Prince.
