Industrial Revolution

             During the period from 1865 to 1920, the industrialization of the United States led to many changes. Three areas that exhibited much change were those of urbanization, labor, and business organization. This period of industrialization led to tremendous growth of businesses and the need for skilled labor within the factories. At the same time there were a large number of people migrating from rural parts of the country to more populated areas such as New York or Boston.
             Small businesses as well as big businesses have been changed because of the industrialization of America. Farmers needed to get their crops to the market and depended upon new supplies to continue production. Because of great expansion after the Civil War, a faster, more efficient method of transporting goods was necessary in order to link the spanning nation. The solution was the railroad system. Once the problem of standardizing time was solved and a universal rail gauge was developed, the railroad system became the leading force in transportation and increased the number of customers that businesses could reach. Newly founded businesses saw the opportunity that these railroads provided and quickly began to build lines of their own with land given to them by the government. After the railroads were completed the owning companies sold the surrounding land to other, smaller businesses or to farmers for very high prices. By doing this they encouraged business and set up more ra!

Morgan, who was already in the railroad business, bought a steal company from Andrew Carnegie and used it to produce steal for his railroads.
