             In the novel 1984, part two chapter 9 to part three chapter 1 various events take place that instantaneously changed the story. Part 2 is based on Winston's love affair with Julia from where it begins and to where it ends. Part 3 is about Winston's punishment and "correction."
             In chapter 9 Winston is able to read "The Book." supposedly written by Emmanuel Goldstein that was obtained from O'Brien. I believe that the significance of "The book" is that it is used as evidence of Winston's need for retraining in being a better Oceania citizen. However although Winston was supposed to read this whole book he only reads little bits and parts of two chapters. In these chapters, the rise of Oceania and its relations to Eurasia and Eastasia are described. Winston also learns the means by which the Party keeps power and the way it creates reality. The amount, which Winston reads, of "The book" tells him nothing that he already knows; it merely systematizes what he had thought out in isolated bits. Winston by reading this book now understands a little bit more about the Oceania government and the history around the place he lives in. I feel that in Winston reading this book it may perhaps aid in him becoming a better rebel against the inner party only because!

             In chapter 10 Winston and Julia awake from a peaceful sleep, and while they are talking a voice is heard from the picture that is hung up on their wall. The voice from the hidden telescreen that lies behind this picture instructs Winston and Julia to put their hands up and not to move; the thought Police had been observing them all along.
