the oddyssey
1) After embarking from Troy, Odysseus and his men sailed to Ismarus, home of the Cicones. Odysseus and his men sacked the city but were ultimately driven off by the Cicones. After these events, Odysseus' party landed their ships in the land of the Lotus-eaters where men who taste the lotus have no desire to return home. Then they landed on the island of the Cyclops, a land ruled by recluse giants. After tricking, blinding and escaping from the Cyclops, Odysseus landed on the floating island of Aeolian. This island is home to the famous Aeolus. The crew stayed for a month and received supplies. They then sailed for ten days, almost reaching Ithaca. But a jealous crewmember opened the bag given to Odysseus by Aeolus, releasing the west winds and blowing them back to Aeolian. Aeolian sent them off, insulted by their return and the crew rowed to the island of Laestrygonian. On the island, the crew came across a people of giants who destroyed all but Odysseus' ship with !boulders. They then reached the Aeaean island, home of Circe. After avoiding Circe's magic, and freeing his men Odysseus resided at the home
If he does not follow this advice, then his crew will be lost, and he will go home a broken man, in a strangers ship. He chose to ignore the warnings he was given and was therefore forced to suffer. There he is taken care of until he decides to leave. Upon reaching the land, Odysseus performed the necessary rituals to invoke the spirits. The worst scenario would have been mutiny. 2) During Odysseus' journey, he made decisions at key points in which hey could have avoided becoming stranded on Ogygia, the island of Calypso. This outcome is still better than returning home broken, with no crew and in a strangers ship. But his crew did not obey, and embarking from the island of the Sun, the ship was hit with a storm. Then, he traveled to the House of Death. Killing all the crew but Odysseus who was washed back to the dwelling of Charybdis and Scylla. He received the information he was looking for from Tiresias, and returns to the Aeaean island to perform the necessary burial rituals for his comrade. As the crew loses six men in the realm of Scylla, they are tired and want a rest. Clinging to a fig tree, he waits for his raft to reappear. Odysseus warns his crew of the decree, but they do not heed him. Zeus raises a storm that holds the crew! on the island.
