Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics is a branch of fluid mechanics that deals with the motion of air and other gaseous things, and with the forces acting on objects in motion relative to such fluids. Some examples of aerodynamic action are an airplane gliding through the air or a windmill spinning. Two of the fundamental forces of aerodynamics are lift and drag.

Using Newton's third law that every action has an equal and opposite reaction the air pushes the wing up. The most aerodynamic shape for an aircraft Is the tear drop shape which is round and big at the end with a tail at the front, much like a tadpole. To reduce this planes have propellers to break the drag. This is also called mach one, which is equal to the speed of sound times one. You don't see that very much because it is uneconomical. When an object reaches this speed, shock waves affect it and cause disturbances In the craft. For instance on an airplane the front of the wing is higher than the lower portion pushing the air down. Those are my basics of aerodynamics. Drag is the resistance on solid objects moving the air. This changes according the surroundings though. One more branch of aerodynamics is supersonics. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**encarta encyclopedia 96 microsoft. Supersonics concern things that happen when the velocity of the object going through a fluid goes faster than the speed sound.
