Changing Times
Who would have thought that July 31 would be the day to change my life! My sister and I have always had a tight relationship. The type of sisters who tell each other everything, though we shouldn't. When she went away to college, we stayed in touch. On several occasions, we stayed up all night just to fill each other in on the week's gossip. After her first year, she ventured back to attend ICC. She began dating her old highschool sweetheart. Our relationship changed again this past May when she married that same sweetheart. Throughout the summer we didn't verbalize much. Married life filled her time; softball and Jacob filled mine. That Saturday night, July 31, was like any other Saturday night of the summer. Traditionally, Saturday's activities included napping at the Stockton's followed by supper at the Speer's. By the time Jacob and I arrived at his grandparents' house, everyone had started their typical gabbing about the week. That night, I remember, the menu included steak, salad, fried squash, green beans, and
Right then and there I knew something had happened. I didn't even hesitate; just answered. I couldn't believe that in a few months she would have a baby. Besides Aaron, the first to hear the great news was I. Jacob had no idea why the subject stuck with me so hard. I believe that loyalty to her is much more important than tattling to my parents. My sister is a butterfly, always fluttering around somewhere. Watching a movie, I completely disregarded it. Conversations continued as we sat in place listening to his cd player. I will definitely take part in that choice any time soon! . Full of emotion, restlessness held me the rest of the night. "You have to promise me on you and Jacob's life," she said, "that you won't tell a soul what you will hear from me. Anger, not happiness, clouded my mind. " I, of course, agreed to her demand.
