Part-time work: Full-time rewards
When you think about someone with a part-time job, you probably think the person is very lucky to have the job. Of course, you probably have one too and have the viewpoint of a younger person still in school. However, if you do not share this opinion, you are not alone. For many adults, the idea of students having part-time jobs may worry them. Perhaps they think that we cannot handle the tasks involved in balancing both school and work. Perhaps it is that they feel that we should concentrate solely on our schoolwork. Whatever their reasons may be I believe that they are ill informed of the many long-term benefits students receive when acquiring and maintaining part-time jobs. Indeed, part-time jobs can be a bit much to handle for some people, but in general, they have many more good aspects about them.First of all, not everyone may be able to handle both school and work, but for most others, they are able to manage this balancing act. My management of money is probably typ!ical of people my age who think they have plenty of time to save their money. Having a part-time job has given me a better understanding of my parent's reasons to limit their spending and has encouraged me to do the same. People should be aware of these reasons and realize that students who balance both school and a work should be commended for their efforts. It also teaches responsibility and money management skills. Eventually, students quickly realize that they may just need to start putting some of their extra money away in case they need it in the future. Students will be performing many different tasks at their jobs. In doing so, students reap many rewards in both areas. Although my savings are not as much as they should be, without a job, I would not even have a savings account.
